Description

Found in low level zones throughout Antonica, Odus, and Faydwer. They are especially common near the East Freeport zoneline in North Ro, making this an ideal spot to farm bone chips.

In Greater Faydark, 4 spawns can be found near the abandoned druid rings outside kelethin and between the newbie & pod lift. They may also be found outside of Felwithe.

In Nektulos Forest, decaying skeletons con scowling. Everywhere else, they are indifferent. They will social with other skeletons nearby. The decaying skeletons in here will also drop a Yellow Whip

The Cracked Staff they sometimes carry is easily spotted and prized by newbies for its relatively high resale value over 1 platinum. On occasion they will be carrying a Worn Great Staff which looks identical but is much less profitable.

All decaying skeletons are standard newbie fodder except for those in Steamfont Mountains. In all other locales, these undead are level 1 with less than 20 HP, while in Steamfont they are between levels 7 to 10. The newbie equivalent in Steamfont is a decaying gnome skeleton, meanwhile the newbie equivalent in Butcherblock Mountains is a decaying dwarf skeleton.

They drop reasonable starter loot for newbies such as rusty weapons and cloth armor. They also drop bone chips, which are of course required by Necromancers and Shadow Knights for their pets. One stack of 20 bone chips can be sold for, on average, 5-10p to players. Bone chips are also an excellent source of extra XP and/or faction for people whose starting towns offer quests for them[1].
